Chores, Homework, Music, Sports, Eat, Sleep, And… Write?
29 Aug
Sometimes it can be really hard to find free time, much less enough time to sit down and type out a story. You got school or a job, then you got homework, errands to do, places to go, people to see, and so on and so forth. Trying to fit in time for writing can be excruciatingly difficult.
For those of you in the above situation, Michael Stelzner over at copyblogger has five tips for finding writing time. They are:
- Identify your productivity zone
- When in the zone, ONLY write
- How to stay focused on writing
- How to accomplish more writing
- Reward yourself for getting writing done
So how do you find time to write? For me, I just sacrifice sleep…

I can’t sacrifice sleep… I love it too much. Really, I should slay my laziness and sacrifice computer time. If I came home, did all my homework, etc. then I could write! Sometimes I forget to eat, too but oh well! I like sleep more…
During NaNoWriMo, I wake up at four or five. I might start doing that now, just so I have an hour of “nothing” to myself when everyone else is asleep. It’s so nice: the house is quiet, it’s still dark, I don’t have to do anything yet. It’s almost peaceful.
I finish homework at school or on the bus and write at night. Like you and [maybe] Claudette, just at night instead of in the morning.
I sacrifice math. Such a loss, I know….
Or rather, I WOULD sacrifice math if I didn’t need it.
Stupid math. Getting in the way of writing…
But.. that’s not fair. I’m “in the zone” from about 11pm to 2.30am… I’m just simply not allowed to stay on the computer that long. Oh, well, I’ll find a way.
