Imitation Is The Highest Form Of Flattery

Copyblogger has a post about finding inspiration in other writers. It’s about using the work of others to improve your own work. It’s an interesting post, and one I couldn’t agree with more.

All great artists start off by mimicking the work of others. Only from that starting point do they begin to develop their own style. Indeed, your style is actually a byproduct of your time period; I doubt Virgil would write the “Aenied” in the same manner today.

And for anyone wondering, the butterfly on the left is a monarch, while the one on the right is a viceroy.
