Anonymous Reporting of Bullies?
14 Oct
An AP news article from yesterday talks about an online Web site that six schools in Utah developed to combat bullying. Through the Web site, students can send an anonymous tip to supervisors. Since the tip is anonymous, the student avoids the snitch label.
As the article says, there really is a code of silence in middle school especially. If you’re being bullied or know someone who is being bullied, you feel like there is enormous pressure to not say anything about it (by the way, the pressure, as one learns eventually, is non-existent). Sending in a tip anonymously should alleviate that.
The only problem I can see are false reports. I remember middle school pretty well, and I know there must be at least a few boys who send in stuff like “Vicke had five zits on her face this morning! Call pet control!” or “Bart brought an RPG to class today!”
But, knowing middle-schoolers, I’m sure it’s fairly easy to distinguish the real reports from the fake reports.
Anyhow, check out the site. It’s pretty nifty:

That would be awesome! I know lots of bullied people who won’t snitch.
Wait…Nate are you saying that middle schoolers are bad liars? Because I am a very good liar, thank you very much!
Anyway, I think what you should do is add them to a little list. Then, supervisors will pay attention to them. If the report was false, they would know.
