Oh wow we’re at that time of the year already! Where did our months of delight go, where have our weeks of peace disappeared to, where have our magic days gone?! Well, they’ve gone to NaNo, of course!
It’s day five of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month for the uninitiated) and I’m sure you’re already writing strong. As you tumble through the next month you will find yourself sinking into lows and riding highs as you hit word limits and forget plot points. With this in mind it is important to remember that you are already on the way to success just by starting! You can’t win if you don’t begin, and other such platitudes, and so you’re already halfway there.
Social networking is right there by your side as well – between the NaNo site, tumblr, facebook and twitter, there is sure to be some advice and motivation which hits right home for you. Don’t be afraid to slide into the community, by all means! The NaNoWriMo community is ready to listen to your success and your gripes, has suggestions for motivation and procrastination.
If you want to start your NaNo now, or in three days or on day 26 – do so! There is nothing wrong with trying even if it is in the middle of the month. If you don’t want to aim for 50k, aim for whatever number you want. NaNo and programs like it are all about making yourself write in a consistent manner, even if that writing needs to be edited until it is entirely different. More importantly, beyond everything else, try and have some fun!
Until next week, NaNo onward!
