Beautiful Kami Garcia, Author and Artist

Mrs. Kami Garcia

Last week, we delved deep into back-story and works of acclaimed YA novelist,  Margaret Stohl, who took part in penning the very famous series, The Caster Chronicles. But, like what I said, Mrs. Stohl is only half of the brains which molded the beautiful novels. Half of the credit goes to another acclaimed author, artist and teacher, our Author of the Week, Kami Garcia.

Washington D.C. is where Kami spent her younger years, thinking up her dreams and goals of becoming  an educator. Things she did include writing poetry and wearing lots of black. Kinda normal for a poet if you ask me! Being a youngling with Southern roots, her dreams almost only consists of the supernatural and paranormal, things people don’t regularly seem to believe in. Thus superstition became part of her daily routine. She believed in the existence of misfortune in the number 13, refusing to go near anywhere with the controversial number (This year might be very uncomfortable for her). Aside from writing, she loved to watch disaster movies and drink coke. The diet version, at that.

These days, though, she spends her writing and teaching days with her husband, son and daughter in Los Angeles, Cali. She used to be a professional artist, think Michelangelo or da Vinci, but she soon focused on her major craft, teaching. With an MA in education, she works as a teacher and reading specialist. For the record, she’s been on the difficult job-line for 14 years. Persevering and patient! Aside from school-work (get it, school and work?), she leads fantasy book groups for children and teens.

What she’s know more for is her status as the #1 New York Times, USA Today, Publishers Weekly, Wall Street Journal & international bestselling co-author of the Beautiful Creatures Novels. But like Margaret, she now focuses on a solo work, namely THE LEGION (coming October 1, 2013), to be begun with Unbreakable.  What’s it about? The paranormal of course!

From the fantastic duo of Margaret and Kami, we can prove that putting heads together in working with something isn’t that all bad. In fact, it’s great! You don’t know, you and your writer friend might be the next YA bestselling authors!
