10 Books of Summer: The Great Gatsby- Final Impressions

(I don’t have much to say today, so I’m leaving it up to you lot!)

Today was meant to be about the language used in The Great Gatsby but I couldn’t even start to choose a quote to start this post off, because just about every line in this book is my favourite. Every other book I’ve been reading seems so dull in comparison. Whatever your qualms with the book, with Fitzgerald’s writing, there’s really no denying that his prose glitters. Did any lines in particular stand out to you? I’d love you to share them!

There’s a lot of really important images in this book- the eyes of Dr TJ Eckleburg and the green light at the end of Daisy’s dock being the two most important ones. What do you guys think they represent? Did they impact the story for you?

And finally- what were your final impressions when you finished the book? How did you feel? Did you enjoy the ending- there was suggestion a couple of days ago that the ending was inadequate in some respects? Did you enjoy the book overall- why or why not? Was there anything you would have done differently, in Fitzgerald’s shoes?

Thanks very much for following so far and I hope that you enjoy the rest of the 10 Books of Summer!
