An Abundance of John Greens
For all of those, like me, who are currently in love with The Fault in Our Stars, do you know that its author actually came to to the spotlight first as a YouTube Vlogger? Yes, but let’s not talk about the lot of the videos he made; instead, let’s take a peek into his past, present and future.
John Green, the author, was born on August 24, 1977 in Orlando, Florida. His love for literature grew as he studied and finished a double major on English and Religious Studies in Kenyon College in 2000. Before authoring Pulitzer-Prize-Winning novels, Green first worked as a student chaplain in a hospital, where he was able to know some children who are experiencing life-threatening diseases. Wonder where this led?
In Chicago, he worked as a publishing assistant in Booklist, a book review journal. He actually balanced his work and social life while writing his first ever novel, Looking for Alaska, which soon won the annual Michael L. Printz Award from the American Library Association. Last year, it reached The New York Times best seller list for children’s paperbacks.
Green’s second novel, An Abundance of Katherines didn’t make it in the Printz, but did become a finalist in the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. His third, Paper Towns, awarded the 2009 Edgar Award for Best Young Adult Novel, debuted at number 5 on the New York Times bestseller list for children’s books.
His fourth novel, I think, needs no more introduction. But if you really need to know…The Fault in Our Stars was the result of recycling The Sequel, a novel he planned during early 2009. The New York Times Best Seller List for Children’s Books listed The Fault in Our Stars at #1 for the weeks of January 29, 2012 and February 5, 2012.

He’s truly an inspiration, and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read the fault in our stars. I’ve also read an abundance of katherines and looking for alaska (and can I also say, that I find it kind of disturbing it’s a children’s book when it most defiantly not child friendly?)and eventually, when I have time, I’ll read Paper Towns. But omg, I love his youtube videos. I watch them and you have no idea how much they make me laugh.
I first discovered John Green the Vlogger in my world history class at school while watching his Youtube video on the French Revolution. Jeez, that man can talk fast. Anyways, once I found out that the book I’d been hearing so much about on Tumblr and such, “The Fault in Our Stars,” was authored by this same John Green, I was ecstatic and couldn’t wait to get my hands on a copy! Since I currently have a book overdue in my school library, I couldn’t check out his book, but four days ago I started going in the library during my lunch period (you guys have no idea how agonizing it is to read the book in 30 minute excerpts per day). Except today, I got there and discovered someone had checked it out. >.< But I love it so far. He has incredible voice as a writer, and, sixty pages in, I'm already in love with Augustus Waters.
