It’s another Korean holiday
I don’t celebrate.
I have the day —
the golden afternoon,
the early spring chill —
to myself.
I will walk up and crush
the chestnut pods
beneath my sneakers as I go.
And when I come down I will peel them open
and prick my fingers
and fill the pockets of my new coat
with chestnuts and chestnuts and dirt.
